"Shut Down" is the 13th song on the 1998 reissue of American Music Club's second album, 1987’s Engine. A studio version of the song has not been released - only the live version on the reissue. The live version was recorded at the Hotel Utah in San Francisco, California. A studio version was recorded in 1989 during the aborted Everclear sessions.[1]

As her mind shuts down,
she begins to cry
A release in everything she wanted
to a big indifferent sky

I remember, I remember, I forget

Her hands are shaking
and she's terrified
and I try to take them
but I'm not like the sky

Yeah, I remember, I remember, I forget
I remember, I remember, I forget
I forget

As her mind shuts down,
she begins to cry
Just like any star
that you ever wished on
